- FIGHT NIGHT CHAMPION BOXERS ARE NOT WORKING PLUS
Unfortunately, Legacy mode once again fails to deliver that knockout blow, which is a shame because story mode lays a really strong foundation.
FIGHT NIGHT CHAMPION BOXERS ARE NOT WORKING PLUS
On the plus side, the constant handicaps and varying AI makes it a beneficial training ground for players wishing to improve their all-round game and tackle the Legacy mode. The only complaint with the story mode is that it's a little on the short side and a good player should be able to get through it in one session. Another fight sees Andre bleeding badly above his eye, which must be protected to prevent the ref from stopping the fight. Andre's job is to cut him off and make him box for the entire round, thus winning the points battle.
FIGHT NIGHT CHAMPION BOXERS ARE NOT WORKING PRO
Bishop's debut pro fight, for example, is against a wily old veteran who attempts to con the judging panel by avoiding any contact for two thirds of the round before unleashing a barrage of punches at the end. Throw in some dodgy cops, neo-nazis and Brian Kenny from ESPN and you have all the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster -albeit one that you've seen ten times before.Ĭut-scenes aside, the action remain fresh and fun thanks to the varying AI, stipulations and handicaps that are introduced with each passing battle. Andre's younger brother is much more rash and enthusiastic, often prone to running his mouth and making snap decisions Gus, Andre's trainer, is basically Mickey from Rocky, while the champion heavyweight is as ruthless and cold as Ivan Drago. Although utterly predictable, the story mode is highly entertaining thanks in no small part to the voice acting and the varied cast of characters. Initially the story is told in flashback form and sees Andre competing as an amateur before moving on to the pro scene and grabbing the attention of a shady boxing promoter and his foxy but feisty daughter Meagan - who also represents boxers and shows an interest in managing Andre. In what must be a contender for one of the more thrilling and dramatic video game opening acts, the story begins with Andre in prison, fighting a white supremacist in a bare knuckle fist fight, before being brutally beaten by a number of fellow prisoners in the shower!
FIGHT NIGHT CHAMPION BOXERS ARE NOT WORKING MOVIE
It follows the path of Andre Bishop, a decent boxer and thoroughly nice bloke who goes from rags to riches and back again in a journey that sees him live out the plot of practically every major boxing movie ever made.

Hurrah for EA Canada, because the latest title Fight Night Champion has a story mode which manages to inject a bit of charisma into the series.

Legacy mode in the previous instalments has always fallen short, offering little in the way personality and charm, making it difficult to emotionally invest in your boxer. However, one thing that has always been lacking from the franchise is a riveting and engaging career mode. More recently, 2009 release Fight Night Round 4 earned our respect thanks to its fluid, fast-paced gameplay and wealth of extras. The franchise continued to evolve and innovate and in 2006 video game fans were treated to the graphically superior next-gen instalment Fight Night Round 3, which at the time featured the finest visuals ever seen in a video game. The Fight Night series has offered a consistently solid boxing experience since it introduced 'Total Punch Control' back in 2004.
